Charcoal drawing on paper "La Ballerina" signed and dated lower right JL. Forain October 31, 1888 and dedicated "very friendly" French school. 27.3 X 21 cm. Louis Henri Forain, known as Jean-Louis Forain (1852-1931) was a student at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts where he followed the courses of Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904). He was a friend of Paul Verlaine (1844-1896) and Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891). Close to the Impressionists, he participated in four of the eight Impressionist exhibitions. Painted wooden baguette frame of the period. Good condition, some foxing.
