Biography:
Alexandre Kéléty 1874 / 1940
born in 1874 in Budapest and died in 1940 is a Hungarian sculptor. The date of birth of Alexandre Kéléty is not mentioned in the literature. He was active as an artist, sculptor, painter and engraver from 1918 until his death in 1940. Kéléty married Hélène Grün Kéléty, daughter of the naturalized French Russian painter Maurice Grün.
At the end of World War I, he emigrated to France, where he became a student of the Hungarian painter and engraver Imre Karoly Simay in Toulouse. He then studied in Paris.
In his works, he often depicted animals as well as the theme of childhood. He also produced chryselephantine busts and statuettes representing dancers and mythological figures in the art deco style. His preferred materials were bronze, ivory, marble and ceramics.
In the interwar period, he exhibited several times at the Salon de la Société des artistes français in Paris. In 1927, he presented a terracotta bust. In 1928 and 1930, he presented bronze and ivory figurines.
These were made by the art publisher Arthur Goldscheider. At the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925, his works were presented on both Goldscheider's stand and that of Edmond Etling.
At the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1937, he presented sculptures made and adapted by the Etling and Les Neveux de Jules Lehmann foundries.
He also presented animal sculptures made by M. Ollier. Kéléty also created everyday objects in the art deco style, such as electric lamps, ashtrays and incense burners. In 1939, Kéléty published advertisements for drawing classes given at 20 rue Ernest Cresson, Paris.
