TRIBAL ARTS-AFRICAN ARTS-SCULPTURE DAN MASK IVORY COAST WEST AFRICA CARVED WOOD CIRCA 1930-1950 Dan mask from Ivory Coast, called racing, gunyé gé. The Dan previously had a tradition of organizing races in the different villages, the aim of which was to train young men for combat. The winner won a mask, which he kept, as long as no other competitor beat him. Expression marked by gentleness for this mask with the characteristic features of representations of Dan masks: high and rounded forehead, round eyes, thin and pinched nose, sensual mouth, fine features in general. Beautiful patina of use. 1st half of the 20th century. Good general condition (marks, traces; see descriptive photos). Weight: 210 grams.
