"Han Woman's Ceremonial Tunic In Embroidered Silk Gauze - Qing Period China Late 19th Century"
Late 19th century China Qing period Han woman's ceremonial tunic in blue and embroidered silk gauze, dating from the end of the 19th century. The designs on the gauze background represent the auspicious signs of Buddhism. Long tunic crossed by six brass bell buttons (including one in black silk) with silver lamé borders finely embroidered with petit point of human figures in lush vegetation. The applied collar called cloud collar is very finely embroidered. No lining, nor embroidery on the sleeves which are very wide. Similar reference catalogue of the exhibition "Under the Dragon's Claw" Geneva Museum 2005, page 122. No damage except for small repairs to the collar in the embroidery, the only defect to report. The silk gauze is in very good condition. Good general condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: Measured flat: height 90 cm, shoulders 78 cm, sleeve to sleeve 172 cm, sleeve height 50 cm, tunic base 91 cm.
