"Vve Platel: Rare 18th Century French Solid Silver Coffee Pot With Coat Of Arms - Nancy 1782-86"
Rare 18th century solid silver coffee pot resting on three hoof feet with cartridge attachments. Body engraved with Coat of Arms under Baron's Crown. Pouring spout with falling button, and lid surmounted by a superb finial representing a superb fruit / seed resting on its two-level leafy terrace. Blackened wooden handle. Hallmarks of the Master of the mastery / Assayer Dominique DEROCHE allowing to date this piece for NANCY 1782-86 and Hallmark of the Master Goldsmith Charles PLATEL (Initials "CP", a thistle and a wheel below) received in 1742. He died in 1760 and it was his widow who continued the activity with the same hallmark, this one will not be crossed out until 1786. This rare Coffee Pot from the Nancy Office (few jugs listed for this Office) is in very good condition and remarkably hallmarked, micro-scratches of use.
