Pierre Edouard Boyer was born in Paris on December 24, 1865. He is the son of Eugène Boyer. A law student in Paris, he also took painting lessons at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris; it was there that he met Alfred Roll (1846-1919), whom he counted among his teachers and then friends and who would become the godfather of his eldest daughter. With his first wife Thérèse Fleury, whom he married in 1900, he went to live in Brittany and settled more precisely in the Côtes-d'Armor near Trieux. In Brittany, the artist painted the light that he loved so much and also practiced sailing. He actually owned several boats.
