Elegant decorative plate in enameled ceramic, signed by Jean Picart le Doux, renowned artist, for the Sant Vicens pottery in Perpignan. The relief decoration represents a stylized conch, enamelled in black and white, contrasting magnificently with a bright red background. This work embodies the modernist aesthetic of the 1950s/60s, combining sobriety and refinement.

Jean Picart le Doux (1902-1982): A master of decorative arts
Son of the painter Charles Picart le Doux, Jean Picart le Doux, self-taught, began his career in bookbinding, publishing and graphic arts. In 1943, he won the Grand Prix for theater poster at the Salon de l’Imagerie. It was under the leadership of decorator Jules Leleu that he turned to tapestry, creating cartoons for the decoration of the liner La Marseillaise.
Vice-president of the Association of Tapestry Painters-Cartonmakers (APCT), he is considered a master of Aubusson Tapestry with more than 400 original works.

In the 1960s, he joined the Sant Vicens pottery, succeeding Jean Lurçat, and brought his unique style to the art of ceramics.

This plate perfectly illustrates the synthesis between his work on color, stylized form and his heritage of decorative art, making this piece a unique testimony to the exceptional craftsmanship of Sant Vicens.
