"Large Pair Of Black Forest Carved Wooden Hunting Trophies From The 19th Century."
Very finely carved, these two trophies represent respectively hunting in the forest and in the plains with a deer and a pheasant for one, hunting in the mountains with a chamois and a snow partridge for the other. The game bags and rifles are hung on the same nail as the game. They are presented on supports with scalloped edges, ribbons, acanthus foliage and stylized shells. Good condition, some small losses including a piece of the deer's right leg, a leaf curl at the top of a cartouche, very slight veil of the supports
Dimensions: Height: 82 cm, Width: 41 cm, thickness 9 cm
The carved wooden objects called "black forest" come from the Brienz region, in Switzerland. Concerning the so-called "black forest" creations, read the very interesting article by Stéphanie Perris "The Black Forest style" published on January 23, 2006 in "la gazette de l'hôtel Drouot"
