China 19th Century, Ewer In Cloisonné Enamels, Double Gourd Shape, Or Cucurbit
A rare 19th century ewer in cloisonné enamel in the shape of a cucurbit with double bulges.
* Signed on the reverse with an sigil stamp *
The ewer rests on a truncated cone-shaped foot that forms a small heel. It has a long, tapering spout that rises to the top of the neck and a whiplash-shaped handle that ends in a small scroll at the bottom. The upper rim is topped with a lid that completes the naturalistic shape of the object with a peduncle.
This ewer is beautifully decorated on an imperial yellow background with clouds in the form of Lingzhi mushrooms.
The base is decorated with a frieze of scales, as are the middle neck and the lid; the lower body is decorated on both sides with a fantastic animal, I think chimeras; four motifs of radiating circles with ribbons complete the decoration.
The object is in very good condition, with only the scroll at the base of the handle possibly lacking enamel, but on closer inspection I'm not sure.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
