"Church In Provence After The Bombings. Fély-mouttet (1893-1953)."
Oil on canvas signed and dedicated lower right: "to my friend Mr. Venturini" representing a church in Provence after the bombings in a sunset similar to a blaze. Fély Mouttet immortalized this church in ruins that the seller told me was that of Collobrières. After fruitless research on the internet, I have not found any trace of a bombing having affected the church of Collobrières. If, among you, someone could enlighten me on this point, I thank him for sharing his information with me. Born in Collobrières in 1893, Fély Mouttet worked at a very young age in a cork factory then decided, at the age of 13, to pursue an artistic career. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Toulon. He went to Paris in 1911, won second prize in the Decorative Arts competition and was admitted to the School of Fine Arts where he was a student of Cormon. There he met Laurent Mattio and Léon Sabatier. In 1921, he was appointed professor at the Toulon School of Fine Arts. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles. Many works acquired by the Toulon Museum. Dimensions Without frame: 46cm by 51cm With frame: 55.5cm by 60.5cm
