Wearing a deep blue djellaba, a man with a full beard looks into the distance. On his head a fez (in Arabic فَاس), a typical male headgear in the Maghreb made of felt decorated with a black tassel fixed on top. The expression on his face gives show us all of his wisdom. Beautiful proportions of the face, the shading bringing volume to the work. This accentuates the realism of this portrait. The contrast of the blue and red with the skin tone of this man gives all its "power" to this portrait.
Excellent condition overall, some old woodworm holes to be noted on the right side of the panel (did not affect the subject). On the back, a stamp from a private collection that has become almost illegible.
A high quality orientalist portrait, the work of a very good artist without a doubt. However, no information about this artist appeared to me during my research. I remain attentive to any information about him. Dimensions of the panel: 27x21cm
