Guy Bardone 1927-2015 School of Fine Arts of Lyon, student of Cavaillès, Desnoyer and Brianchon at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, and exhibited from 1947 in various salons alongside Bernard Buffet, he won the Prix Fénélon in 1952 and in 1953 was selected for the famous group exhibition "Celebrities and revelations of contemporary painting" which will take place at the Musée Galliera. Exhibitions followed in Paris, at Galerie Charpentier, London, at Marlborough Gallery, at Wildenstein Gallery, in New York, at Wally Findlay Gallery, in Paris and Tokyo at Taménaga. Major retrospectives were devoted to him, notably at the Château de Chenonceau. The highly renowned art critic Georges Besson devoted a biography to him in 1970. In 2000, his catalogue raisonné was published. The Musée de l'Abbaye – financed by the Guy Bardone-René Genis Foundation – was inaugurated in 2008 in Saint Claude, his hometown, to present the collections assembled by Guy Bardone and his friend René Genis. It brought together works by Chagall, Gromaire, Buffet, Picasso, Braque, Bonnard, Rebeyrolle, and of course Guy Bardone and René Genis. His works are also present in numerous private collections and at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nantes.
