La Poya and the Aiguille Verte, mythical places in the Chamonix Mont-Blanc area. Oil on panel signed lower right Ch.Contencin. Charles-Henri Contencin (1898 -1955) born in Paris but raised in the Bernese Oberland, he will remain a mountain enthusiast, member of the French Alpine Club, he joined the Society of Mountain Painters in 1929 and was its president from 1954 to 1955. He participated in many exhibitions: Salon des Indépendants from 1927 to 1938, Salon des Artistes Français, Salon de l'Ecole Française. He specialized in the rendering of light effects on snow and glaciers, and will create many high mountain landscapes, his favorite places will be the Ecrins massifs as well as Mont Blanc, its environment and the great Alpine massifs.
