Lucien-Victor Guirand de Scévola: Portrait of Alice Maude Davis known as Hope Temple, (1859-1938) Irish author and composer, wife of the very famous André Messager, (1853-1929) musician and author and composer Pastel signed lower right - Handwritten note on the back with date 1908. Lucien-Victor Guirand de Scévola (1871-1950) French artist, student of Fernand Cormon at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, brilliant portrait painter, he notably executed the portraits of the Duke of Massa and the Duchesses of Uzès and Brissac, also a painter of flowers, still lifes, alcove scenes and landscapes. Well known for having invented and developed the basics of military camouflage during the First World War to hide artillery pieces under painted canvases. Officer then Commander of the Legion of Honor. Works in the museums of fine arts of Brest, and the Musée d'Orsay Paris.
