"Undergrowth Signed Henri Zuber Dated 1887"
Important oil on canvas signed by Henri Zuber (1844-1909) and dated 1887. Zuber, a great landscape specialist, admired the light breaking through the undergrowth. He transcribed these atmospheres in many paintings made in the Ferrette region, located in the south of Alsace where his family owned a chalet not far from the ruins of the castle. Works depicting the forests and rocks of the surrounding villages were presented in the salons from 1873. Throughout his life, Zuber would depict the wooded landscapes of Fontainebleau, Brittany and Normandy, where he stayed several times, from Bugey in particular to Artemare, and from the Doubs valley and the Cannes hinterland. Our work is dated 1887, the vision of trees and rocks in shades of green and gray, is highlighted by the light of the sky, and the light spots initiated by the fur grazing under the trees. Signed lower left H.Zuber and dated 1887. Beautiful wooden frame and patinated stucco.
