"Louis XIV Period Chest Of Drawers From Dauphiné"
Louis XIV period Dauphiné chest of drawers in marquetry. Early 18th century circa 1710/1720. Grenoble region. It has a very slightly curved front and opens with four drawers. The marquetry is made up of olive wood (grain and end grain), walnut, violet wood fillets and alternating fillets of light and dark wood (boxwood and submerged oak). The front of the drawers is inlaid with olive wood in butterfly wings framed by alternating fillets and violet wood in reserves. The sides have a diamond of olive wood in the center surrounded by a triple frame of walnut and violet wood. The top has a geometric decoration of circles and spandrels in violet wood and walnut in olive wood frames in end grain and grain, all surrounded by alternating wooden fillets. Drop handles and keyholes in gilded and chiseled bronze. The gilding has been redone. The locks are original, they are functional and have a key. The frame and the casings are in fir, walnut and oak.
