"Lacquer Box - Tortoiseshell - Landscape Late 18th Century"
Rectangular lacquered box, late 18th century - early 19th century. It features a lively landscape on the lid: A young woman walks in a meadow admiring the landscape: an arched bridge crosses a river dominated by tall, tapered trees, probably poplars; on a hill we can see a building that looks like a small temple. Three men are fishing, one sitting near the young woman and the other two standing at the bottom of the hill. This landscape is painted with great softness and harmony in the colors. The inside of the box is covered in tortoiseshell and the hinge bears punches that are difficult to decipher but are probably vermeil. Box: 9.5 X 5.5cm H: 1.7cm Miniature: 4.3 X 7.3cm Good condition.
