Peasant woman pulling up her stockings by Gaston Broquet Statuette realistically depicting a countryside scene where a farmer's wife is hanging up her stockings. Bronze signed Gaston Broquet, produced by the Susse foundry during the first part of the 20th century. Particularly carefully cast, original brown/dark patina in very good condition. Black Belgian marble base with clean lines (tiny chips on the edges). The height indicated does not include this base. Gaston Broquet (1880/1947) was a sculptor from Void (Meuse). Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Jean-Antoine Injalbert and Gabriel-Jules Thomas. His works depicting realistic scenes also address orientalist subjects probably inspired by obtaining a travel grant and a stay in Morocco. Gold medalist at the Salon des Artistes Français, he also participated in numerous colonial exhibitions and fairs. A fighter during the First World War where he was wounded, upon his return he was asked to create numerous monuments paying tribute to the victims of the War.
