*Cécile and Marie Desliens were born respectively in 1853 and 1856 in Chavanon (Allier).
They first lived in Tulle before settling in Paris, where they exhibited on numerous occasions at the Grand Palais, with some success.
They painted with four hands.
Their painting, of great classicism, explored three themes: still lifes, genre scenes and portraits.
At the start of the First World War, they settled in Thiers, before living in Clermont and then Riom.
In addition to their great success, the Desliens sisters demonstrated character and great freedom of spirit, fleeing marriage, always working together, refusing fashions and compromises, crisscrossing France according to exhibitions and commissions and cultivating the mystery of their artistic collaboration.
Settled in Tulle in their youth, they produced many paintings together, which they co-signed between 1885 and 1936.
In addition to the bouquets of flowers, they left us a gallery of portraits of the Tulle bourgeoisie of the Third Republic: magistrates, soldiers rub shoulders with bishops, doctors, scholars.
Cécile Desliens died in 1937, her sister Marie a year later.
They left a considerable body of work, distributed in various museums and in private homes.
