Biography:
Hassan Massoudy is an Iraqi painter and calligrapher born in 1944 in Nadjaf, trained in traditional Arabic calligraphy and author of modern calligraphy.
He perpetuates the learned curves and mysteries of traditional Arabic writing while breaking with it.
He refined the line, merging tradition and modernity to tend towards a simplicity of the line. "Considered by Michel Tournier as the greatest living calligrapher, Hassan Massoudy is a craftsman in the service of true wisdom.
Hassan Massoudy is a painter who resides in France and who has exhibited extensively nationally, as well as in the United States, the United Kingdom, Turkey, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates. He draws inspiration from poetry from around the world and incorporates Arabic calligraphy into his compositions, reconstructing words in a humanist theme.
