"Allegorical Bronze, Jean-louis Grégoire (1840-1890)"
Jean-Louis Grégoire (1840-1890): Magnificent Large bronze with medal patina, representing a woman with graceful curves and a fine face, resting on a base in red griotte marble. The sculptor highlights her delicate features, in particular the locks of hair that escape from her bun to frame her prominent cheekbones. She holds, at arm's length, a laurel branch on which two swallows, symbols of freedom and peace, spread their wings ready to fly away, an allegory of the fragility of these precious moments. Advancing barefoot on rocky ground, the young woman, her hair tied up, and dressed in a simple shawl around her waist, gracefully lifts a laurel branch, accentuating the symbolism of this plant. Jean-Louis Grégoire has captured movement and emotion, where fauna, flora and humanity harmonize to celebrate peace and freedom.
