HELMET OF THE BODYGUARD OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSEHOLD, first model, 1814, Restoration. 30003 Bomb, visor and neck guard in black patent leather. Depth of the bomb approximately 17 cm. Visor waxed green on the inside and edged with a silver-plated copper reed folded astride the outer edge (width 8 mm) fixed by means of four small silver nails. Width of the visor 5.5 cm. Width of the neck guard approximately 3.5 cm. All the helmet fittings are in silver-plated copper. Front plate stamped in relief with a radiant sun on which appears the face of the sun framed by two intertwined Ls surmounted by the royal crown, with a decoration of clouds in the lower part on which a ribbon bears the inscription "NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR" (Superior to all: motto of Louis XIV). H of the plate 16.5 cm, width approximately 32 cm. It is fixed by a clasp on each side at the level of the chinstraps and by a conical screw at its top. Rear band forming a point in its center, decorated with two branches of foliage with a central fleuron and bordered at the top and bottom with protruding moldings. On each side of the bomb, is fixed (decision of January 16, 1815) a palm with two branches curling towards the front. Crest composed of a mask and two fins. The three parts are embossed with a series of feathers decreasing towards the back, the upper part of which is cut into festoons. In the lower part, the decoration represents a series of acanthus leaves, the lower end is folded outwards, cut into festoons and fixed to the bomb by means of four brass screws with conical heads per fin, the base of the mask is fixed to the top of the forehead band by means of a hook with an internal nut (this hook keeps the chin straps raised) Brass plume holder with a slightly decreasing tubular section towards the bottom with tightening screw in the upper part. Chin straps each composed of a chin strap and a rosette: chin strap in leather covered with black velvet and covered with a series of scales cut alternately into four or three festoons, the 18 scales are bordered by a chiseled net; the chin straps are finished with a silver braid cord finished with fringed pompoms. Length of the chin straps approximately 16 cm, maximum width 5.8 cm, minimum width approximately 1.5 cm. Rosettes embossed in relief with a radiant sun, H 6.5 cm, width 7.8 cm, with in the center the face of the sun finely embossed, the back of which is welded to a clip which crosses the rosette, the chin strap and the bomb. Mane in black horsehair mounted on a leather sole and cut in the shape of a brush. H approximately 7 cm. The front point protrudes by approximately 5 cm, H at the back approximately 6 cm. Inner headdress composed of a black waxed leather headband topped with black silk. Present in its wooden transport box covered with black wallpaper. France. Restoration. Very good condition, some period scales but not from the model, two scales are missing from a chin strap.
