" Romantic School (19th Century) - The Beautiful Widow"
- Oil on canvas. - Superb romantic portrait from the second quarter of the 19th century, executed with evident pictorial mastery, and which successfully combines a privileged manner for the representation of pleasant physiognomies, a great empathy to capture the psychological semblance, and an exquisite brushstroke that abundantly details the secondary elements to the beautiful face of our lady. Coquettishly avoiding the mourning imposed by the stifling society of the Restoration, whether due to widowhood or the death of a loved one, a magnificent Bruges lace collar, rich lace sleeves and a splendid gold and coral bracelet enhance the beauty of the young lady, forced to dress in "black silk" for almost a year. The inspired look proves feminine virtue as it was understood then: modesty, modesty and introspection. - Dimensions of the image without frame: 92 x 76 cm / 112 x 94 cm with magnificent original carved, stuccoed and gilded wooden frame from the period. - Comes from a private collection of paintings from Reims. - Good general condition. Minimal defects. Traces of old restorations on the left neck area. - This painting is a unique, original and irreplaceable work of art. - Galerie Montbaron attaches a technical sheet drawn up by a qualified art historian with all its lots.
