Oil on canvas mounted on a wooden panel depicting a superb still life with dentist's instruments. In fact, the various instruments and tools used by dentists at the end of the 18th century are masterfully depicted. This is the work of Jean Bonvoisin, a renowned painter at the end of the 18th century. His father was an art dealer and his mother an artist. A student of Callet and then Doyen, he won the second prize in Rome for painting in 1774 behind the very famous Jacques-Louis David. In 1775, he won the first prize in Rome with his Aman confounded by Esther before Assuerus. During the Revolution, he was appointed administrator of the Musée Central des Arts, which is the forerunner of the current Louvre Museum. During the Restoration, he became a professor at the Ecole royale gratuite de dessin. He died in Paris in 1837. In 1871, the painter Constant Misbach offered a portrait of Jean Bonvoisin to the Louvre Museum. Our work is signed at the bottom left. It has slight detachment of the canvas. Around 1800.
