Pewter bowl with openwork console ears, flat-topped lid, gadrooned edge and relief decoration of scrolls, lilies and fleurons. Mushroom handle. Hallmarking:
1°- unpublished master's mark: crowned sword / two stars / GVILLAVME MALPLACH.
2°- Hallmark of Antoine BROUILHET received master in Pézenas around 1703: AB in an oval cartouche
PEZENAS or MONTPELLIER, Early 18th century

In good condition, solid cast iron.
Bibliography: "Pewter potters of the Old Languedoc and Roussillon" by René Richard

Discussion: An Antoine MALPLACH received master in Montpellier around 1644 is cited by René Richard in the work cited above. This author does not mention this Guillaume, probably a relative (son?) of Antoine. The hallmark of Antoine Brouilhet associated here with the previous one attests in all likelihood to a transfer of workshop from one to the other.
