"Rack And Pinion Desk, Late 18th Century"
Rare late 18th century mahogany and mahogany veneer desk with racks. The writing desk with a sloping top covered in leather, with two inkwells and a pen tray, is fitted with a double-bolt lock, which is a sign of quality. It reveals an interior with four drawers. The racks allow the writing desk to be raised to different heights and to reveal the top and a spacer, the button used to lower the box. The whole rests on a base whose side panels with rudentée fluting forming a stylized lyre are joined by a spacer shelf. Parisian work in the style of Canabas in very good condition.
