Object description :

"Austrian Terracotta Tobacco Jar With Naval And Railway Imagery"
This 19th century tobacco jar is the work of the Austrian manufacturer Ferdinand Gerbing Werk, it is thus marked with a "FGW" on the bottom. He was an artist specializing in terracotta offering very elaborate pitchers, pots and other boxes featuring characters or animals. This tobacco jar pays homage to the navy and the railway, its lid offers a series of sailors with a beer mug in their hands surrounding a navy anchor whose ring at the top is mobile and miraculously intact, this lid is reinforced with bronze at its base. The jar itself offers two cartridges with a train on one side and a boat on the other.
