The lid, which has small holes to allow hot steam to escape, is also adorned with embossing depicting spirals and plant racemes. In the past, embers were placed inside the food warmer, while the food to be kept warm was arranged in the upper part; the object could also be used as a foot or hand warmer. This object of great antiquity and taste can also be used today as a centerpiece or flower holder, by removing the lid. It is attributed to Tuscan manufacture from the late 17th century.
