"Late 18th Century Neoclassical Inkwell With The Myth Of Orpheus "
Elegant inkwell in gilded mercury bronze. This refined inkwell is composed of two small opening boxes, designed to contain the ink and the pen. In the center, the figure of Orpheus stands gracefully, dressed in his chiton and with the lyre in his hand, symbol of the mythological hero. The rectangular base of the inkwell is decorated with an evocative scene from the myth of Orpheus, in which the hero descends into Hades to recover his beloved Eurydice. Here, mythological creatures intertwine: on the right, Cerberus, the three-headed dog, is depicted tied with a chain to a rock, while on the left is Charon, the ferryman of souls, above his boat on the river Acheron. In the center of the composition, Orpheus holds the lyre firmly and turns towards Cerberus. An object of great value and elegance, capable of enriching any environment with taste and class. French manufacture from the neoclassical period, late 18th century.
