"Jean Mayodon (1893-1967): Magnificent Art Deco Vase"
Jean Mayodon (1893-1967): magnificent Art Deco vase, called a spherical bottle vase, with a high narrow neck. On a green background reminiscent of jade, enhanced with gilding, a herd of stylized antelopes crosses a dreamlike and wild landscape. This motif, typical of the artist's work, is part of a style inspired by Antiquity, offering a new interpretation of classical motifs. Vase signed '' M SEVRES '' with gold enamel under the base. The harmony between the iconography and the shape of the vase reinforces the impression of movement and life, making this piece a true work of art representative of the Art Deco period. All the quality of Mayodon's work consists in transmitting completely innovative emotions and perspectives through "known" motifs. The artist thus combines the beauty of the antique with the poetry of his talent. Originally from Sèvres, where he spent most of his life working in his personal workshop, one of the most important ceramicists of his time, Mayodon was appointed artistic advisor to the Manufacture from 1934 to 1939, then artistic director in 1941-1942. He was also commissioned to produce much more ambitious pieces for the great ocean liners of the time, such as the iconic ''Normandie'' and the ''Pasteur'', then the ''France''.
