Object description :

" Cartel Clock Tortoise Shell Marquetery 1855"
Very beautiful cartel from the Napoleon III period around 1855, in the Louis XV style. Uncommon feature: the widespread black or red tortoiseshell but rarely green. Marquetry in technique. Boulle covered with a magnificent veneer of green tortoiseshell shaded with black, inlaid with brass motifs forming scrolls. Elegant quality ornamentation in gilded and chiseled bronze with plant motifs.

Domed dial in white enamel with blue numerals accompanied by finely worked gilded hands, highlighted by a chiseled bezel set with a domed glass. Original sun balance with the same gilding visible from the front through a window.

Original movement without modification, hour and half-hour strike on an old bell.

The marquetry has benefited from a tampon varnish providing contrast, shine and protection.
