Black marble and gilded bronze portico clock, decorated with two vestal canephores as caryatids, surmounted by winged griffins, above a beautiful flowered basket, underside of the dial decorated with a drapery element, base decorated with a quiver with bow and arrows, dial signed Omont* in Rouen, from the Return from Egypt period, 1st Empire, early 19th century. This clock is in good condition and is of exceptional quality. We have its wooden base and its globe. The movement works, we have the key and the pendulum decorated with a cherub or Bacchus. * The dial is signed by the clockmaker Louis-Joseph-Frédéric Omont (1772-1857) who was appointed Governor of the Gros Horloge in Rouen (clockmaker responsible for taking care of the clock and who resided in the tower). Please note: some scratches and dirt on the marble, some dirt in places on the gilding, a bronze ornamentation (thread) moves slightly on one side, some scratches and bubbles on the globe, wear of time, see photos.
