Jean-claude Quilici (1941-) Mykonos, Boat On Land In The Port.
Artist: Jean-claude Quilici (1941-)
Mykonos, the Cyclades and their particular luminosity which inspired the Marseille artist Jean-Claude Quilici and contributed to his fame. A solid, sober and effective drawing, broad brush and knife strokes, a generous and unctuous material, and the characteristic colors of Greece. The work is offered in a modern gold and brown frame, by the framer Delf which measures 67 cm by 81.5 cm and 46 cm by 61 cm for the canvas alone. In very good condition, it represents traditional Greek fishing boats pulled ashore, a fisherman's cart and in the background a church. It is signed lower right, monogrammed and titled "La barque sur le port, Mykonos" on the back, and bears the number 821506. A change of scenery guaranteed with this work by this artist who established himself as one of the leaders of the Provençal School of the 80s.
At a very young age, he attended the École des Beaux Arts, and after an approach to the great Masters of Provençal Painting, he exhibited his first paintings in his city from 1958. Between 1960 and 1970, he received numerous Painting Prizes, which crowned his beginnings as a young painter, and during this period, exhibitions of his works were organized in multiple galleries in France. From 1971, the United States welcomed him: Washington, New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Albuquerque… In 1980, Jean Claude Quilici began his career in Japan: from Tokyo to Osaka, via Kobe, Shizuoka, Fukuoka, Nagano, Sapporo… all these cities organized exhibitions for him and gave him a warm welcome. For 30 years, his lithographic works and paintings have been permanently present in Japan. Jean Claude Quilici has not neglected France, however. His work is regularly exhibited in the most important galleries in Marseille, Toulon, Ajaccio, Lyon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Nancy, Cannes, Saint-Tropez. The artist also pursues a career abroad: United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, etc. He was also invited to create various works during his career, such as monumental frescoes for the University of Corte (Corsica), 40 m long and 4 m high, and for the Metro of the City of Marseille. A wall decoration on enamelled sheet metal, 130 m long… In 1997, the artist created the sets for Gounod's opera Mireille for a co-production of the Marseille Opera and the Bordeaux Opera.
