"Georges Pomerat (1868-1948) Woman In A Straw Hat In An Orchard."
A technique and material reminiscent of the great Henri Martin. Numerous brushstrokes and generous impasto that immerse us in the colorful and luminous atmosphere of this orchard that the tired gardener seems to contemplate. The work is presented in a Louis XIV style frame with a trianon patina that measures 83 cm by 67 cm and 61 cm by 46 cm for the canvas alone. It represents a woman wearing a straw hat who seems pensive, leaning on a garden tool, a wheelbarrow at her side, in a colorful and spring-like plant environment. In excellent condition, it is signed and dated 1914 at the bottom right.
Born in Ardèche in 1870, Georges Pomerat settled in Marseille at the beginning of the 20th century where he shared a studio in the Vieux Quartiers, behind La Bourse, with his close friend Jean Guindon. In this workshop all the artists of the Marseille Bohemia meet, Louis Audibert, Edmond Astruc, Pierre and Pascal Ambrogiani, Toussaint d'Orcino, Antoine Ferrari, FM Berthet, JF Canepa, Antoine Serra, Pierre Marseille, François Diana etc and many others. He was successful in the 1920s and 1930s. He then moved to Arles in the 1940s where without money, material aid, relief or food he died in the hospital in 1948.
