Around 1900
The French Cancan, rework with variations of a composition by Pablo Picasso
Oil on cardboard
32 x 26 cm unframed
Damaged and cut corners (lower left), good condition overall
Our oil on cardboard is a rework of a pastel by Pablo Picasso kept at the Hiroshima Museum of Art dated 1900, the beginning of his Montmartre period when he was still very influenced by Toulouse-Lautrec. Our work, due to its differences (format, material, medium, style) with the original work, is not a simple copy or pastiche. It is surely the work of a French or Spanish Montmartre artist gravitating around Picasso at that time.
