The flask is rectangular, it is curved to fit the shape of the body in a breast or trouser pocket.
The body is engraved with a superb number (CJ?) formed of scrolls and acanthus leaves.
The whole interest of this flask is its ingenious "straw" system.
The screw cap extends into a hollow stem to the bottom of the flask. Its lower part is pierced with a few holes.
The small protuberance on the lid is the end of the straw that is pinched between the lips. It extends to the bottom of the flask.
By pulling on this protuberance, the internal straw rises and releases the holes in the external stem, allowing you to sip the contents of the flask.
This system allows you to drink the contents at any time, without unscrewing the cap and discreetly, which can be very practical during meetings that drag on.
The flask is hallmarked:
. Minerva hallmark 1st title before 1973 for 950/°° silver (on the neck). Boar's head hallmark for solid silver after 1838 (on the cap)
. Poorly struck goldsmith's hallmark A? with a horse (?) that I have not been able to identify
. A small poorly struck and illegible hallmark
Superb flask with a very interesting and rare straw system. Moreover, this type of flask, with a classic cap, is generally English, having such a French production is all the more remarkable.
