The box is octagonal, the lid is engraved with a geometric decoration of three-dimensional cubes in a network of lines forming stars.
This decoration is superb and uncommon on solid silver boxes.
It is hallmarked:
. Boar's head hallmark for solid silver between 1838 and 1961
. Goldsmith's hallmark: H&Cie with a rosebud and a star for Hénin et compagnie, a large goldsmith's house, whose hallmark is used between 1875 and 1891 then from 1896 until 1976.
Superb box typical of the Art Deco period, made by a great French goldsmith.
