"Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668) Cavalry Fight Between Orientals And Imperials Oil On Canvas"
Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668) Cavalry fight between Orientals and Imperials oil on canvas circa 1660

This interesting 17th-century painting fits perfectly into the vast catalog of numerous small paintings of the Dutch Golden Age, and more particularly of this excellent painter Philips Wouwerman or Wourwermans.

We offer you this beautiful and colorful battle scene in the foreground of the painting, certainly between the Oriental cavalry and the Imperial cavalry. In the background evanescent and bluish hills, to finish on the edge of a threatening sky.

Beautiful Dutch school, oil on canvas from the end of the 17th century circa 1660. We think that our painting is closer to the work of Philips Wouwerman or Wouwermans or its workshop.

Sizes unframed: H 21.65 Inches. - W 26.77 Inches.
Sizes with frame : H 32.28 Inches. - W 35.82 Inches.

In a fine original condition, our painting has been professionally cleaned, small painting repairs in the sky part of the painting. Beautiful hand-carved wood frame.

Philips Wouwerman or Wouwermans, baptized on May 24, 1619, in Haarlem where he died on May 19, 1668, is a painter and engraver of the Dutch Golden Age.

Philips Wouwerman is one of the most versatile and prolific artists of the Dutch Golden Age. Embedded in the artistic milieu and tradition of his native Haarlem, Wouwerman had a major influence in contributing to the canon of 17th-century Dutch painting. His paintings were highly sought after during his lifetime and even more so in the following century, especially in the courts of Louis XVI and Charles IV.
Throughout Europe, princely collections of ancient art such as that of Dresden, the Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza or St. Petersburg still testify to this general admiration for the art of Wouwerman.
