The box is rectangular, the four sides are decorated with a half of dots on a guilloché background of small diamonds, close to the grain of rice pattern.
Each guilloche panel is framed by a frieze of eggs and leaves.
The interest and rarity of this box lies in its compartmentalization. The upper face opens conventionally via a long side and the lower face, less conventionally, opens onto two compartments each having an independent lid.
This rare configuration made it possible to store different tobaccos or other small accessories.
The box is made of pomponne, a golden copper alloy imitating gold at a lower cost. It was authorized by royal privilege in 1785 and takes its name from the Hôtel de Pomponne where craftsmen manufactured objects with this metal.
Superb box, particularly interesting with its numerous lids and locations allowing you to store different substances.
