Hungarian-American artist.
Known for his paintings of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, genre scenes, musicians, gardens, carriages, and maritime scenes. He painted many famous portraits over the years, including General "Blackjack" Pershing, whose portrait hangs at the Arlington Air Force Base in Virginia.
He usually worked in oils and painted in a realist style. Ernest's name and dates are often confused with his son's Ladislaus (or Laszlo, or Lazlo) De Nagy (Hungarian, 1906-1944), who was also a noted painter and died very young.
He also had a daughter Eva De Nagy (Hungarian-American, 1911-1999) who was a notable painter and later owned the Eva De Nagy Art Gallery in Provincetown. Ernest's work is in numerous public and private collections throughout the world.
