Truncated cone-shaped pewter PITCHER, with cylindrical base, quarter-round goblet and S-shaped thumb with molded crest and rampant tongue. Hallmark of François 1er CARMOUCHE received master around 1675: crowned fly / FC
Gauging hallmark:
1° - IT, of Jean II TISSEUR appointed in 1681.
2° - shield / rampant lion / three lilies.
3° - crowned arms of France. Height: 17.7 cm.
LYON, end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century.

Very rare provenance, superb quality and condition and very well hallmarked - One of the most sought-after pitchers.
The control of the capacity of pitchers, wine measures of the Ancien Régime, was entrusted to gaugers-controllers who affixed a mark when the pitcher remained fit for service and assured "good measure" to the consumer.
