He lived in Le Raincy from 1946, his parents then working as herbalists there. During his secondary studies in Le Raincy, his drawing teacher was Louis Parrens (1904-1993) - author in 1953 of the book Perspective et tracing des ombres: théorie et pratique which would be regularly republished - who, in 1952, encouraged him to take the entrance exam for the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art the same year, where he entered in October 1953 to learn the techniques of monumental art - mosaics, tapestry, stained glass, frescoes, but also lacquer with Pierre Bobot - and received his diploma in June 1957. Admitted in October 1957 to the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris where his preparatory class teachers were Yves Brayer, Georges Rohner, Georges Cheyssial, Edmond Heuzé and Jean-Eugène Bersier (the latter teaching the art of engraving), he joined in 1958 Roger Chapelain-Midy's studio, then participated in the Salon de la Jeune Peinture alongside Bernard Buffet, Maurice Boitel, Xavier Valls, Michel-Henry and Pierre-Henry. In 1964, winner of the Prix de la Casa de Velázquez (he was part of the 35th promotion with Arnaud d'Hauterives), he stayed in Madrid until 1966. According to the testimony of his friend Jean Canavaggio who met him there for the first time, his painting there shifted to a "new style" that would definitively replace the dark tones that had until then placed him in the continuity of Francis Gruber and the miserabilism of the post-war period: "in contact with Spain, its traditions and its contrasts, we saw his palette gradually lighten, his landscapes welcome the chalky whites of Andalusia, his horizons become imbued with the light of the Castilian plateau". Since 1959, he has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including: Salon de la Jeune Peinture, Salon d'Automne of which he became a member in 19725, Salon Comparaisons where he exhibited for around forty years in the group of Maurice Boitel6, Salon de la Société nationale des beaux-arts, Salon des artistes français, of whose committee and jury he became a member in 1970. The Prix de la Marine nationale awarded to him in 1978 earned him a trip aboard La Jeanne to Polynesia. He regularly painted bright and colourful works in the surroundings of his properties in Cannes and Deauville, inspiring the joy of living. Gérald Schurr also cites landscapes of the Vosges and Arcachon Bay.
