Virgin Praying Before The Sleeping Child Jesus

Rare composition representing the Virgin in prayer before the peacefully sleeping child Jesus. We enter into the intimacy of the Virgin, which gives this painting a great humanity, and a reassuring presence, accessing a quiet devotion. The oval format, but in width, is not very frequent, but it is typical of the middle of the beginning of the 17th century. The composition is balanced, mastered, the praying hands elegant. The author of this painting, has assimilated the lessons of the great French masters of the beginning of the 17th century. The painting is in its original frame in carved wood from the Louis XIII period, with its gilding on the brown background never taken up. A little collage would be useful to reinforce the whole frame but it is in excellent condition. The canvas in good condition, unrestored would be even more valuable with a little cleaning.
