Lucien Simon, born July 18, 1861 in Paris and died in Sainte-Marine on October 13, 1945, is a French painter, watercolorist, draftsman and lithographer. The years 1900-1920 mark the peak of Lucien Simon's career. His fame led him to travel a lot and he participated in several international exhibitions. The State bought his paintings (The Procession, 1901, Paris, Musée d'Orsay), as did Japanese, European and American museums and renowned foreign collectors (the Russians Ivan Morozov and Sergei Shchukin). The Prado Museum bought The Dance Lesson from him. In 1900, Lucien Simon won the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris and was named a knight of the Legion of Honor. In 1911, he was promoted to officer of the same order. Lucien Simon died on October 13, 1945 in Sainte-Marine. He is buried in the cemetery of Combrit, in Finistère
