15/16th century stone sculpture, possible representation of Saint Maurice

Condition: as is: several gaps due to the vagaries of history, war, peasant revolutions, etc. the right hand and lacks also material at the level of the thorax certainly resulting from external exposure and frost. Head glued back together. see photos.

but this in no way alters the charm and beauty of this work which must be admitted with its history

Superb stone sculpture dating from the 16th century, possibly representing Saint Maurice, an emblematic figure often associated with the sword and protection.
The character is dressed in a finely draped outfit with elegant scrolls. The left hand rests on a sword attached to his belt, while the right hand, raised, is now missing.
This work retains traces of polychromy, evidence of a rich history and original refinement.

A rare object full of history, perfect for collectors of sacred art or lovers of 15/16th century antiques.
