Large pewter BASIN with relief decoration called "Temperance".
It presents at the navel an allegory of Temperance surrounded by four cartouches with the allegories of Air, Fire, Water and Earth. On the wing, eight cartouches represent those of Minerva and the Liberal Arts (Astrology, Grammar, Dialectic, Rhetoric, Music, Arithmetic, Geometry), alternating with motifs imitating leatherwork showing mascarons, animals and plants.
Countermark of Caspar ENDERLEIN received master in 1586, (initials CE) in the central cartouche.
Hallmark on the reverse of Jacob II KOCH received master in 1583: crowned rose / IK
Diameter: 44.7 cm
NUREMBERG, between 1611 and 1619.


This dish, from the "EDELZIN" category, is the resumption by Caspar ENDERLEIN in 1611 of the model by François BRIOT, cast here by Jacob II KOCH between 1611 and 1619.
Several examples are kept at the Louvre and by various German museums.
Conservation : Repairs, refilling and consolidations.
