Marble bust of a Roman emperor with a laureate head dating from the first half of the 19th century.
The bust is sculpted in white Carrara marble and is adorned with a breastplate with piastre patterns, the right shoulder being topped with a finely worked lion's muzzle and reminiscent of the skin of the Nemean lion worn by Hercules and used to deify the emperor.
A knot on the left shoulder holds a chlamys.
The face is in rosso antico marble which is reminiscent of the color of porphyry, the color is very close but without the feldspar crystals.
On the other hand, it is a very hard marble.
The face is finely sculpted and also recalls certain faces of the Caesars.
His head is laureate and the laurel crown is very finely worked.
The face is powerful and almost severe, dry and fine. the combination of the two marbles is very effective.
