19th century European work
Gilt bronze
H. 6.5 ; L. 6 cm
A composite pendant consisting of the lower part of a gilded bronze crucifix or stoup depicting two angels in adoration at the foot of a phallus erected on an altar in place of the cross. The rod is carved in such a way as to attribute it to Japanese work, perhaps adapted from a netsuke.
A suspension ring is fixed under a poly-lobed plate, centred on a bouquet of flowers and decorated with three scallop shells.
