Object description :

"19th Century Horse Game With Board And Merry-go-round (france - Deauville)"
A 19th century horse game with board and merry-go-round (France - Deauville - ca.1880)

The game consists of a carousel and a game board. The merry-go-round is decorated with a statue by Hippolyte Moreau and painted with 12 horses and riders. The identical horses and riders can be found on the wooden painted game board (106x187cm).

Ladies were not allowed to bet in the 19th century, so they played at home with this horse game.

The merry-go-round and the game board have a beautiful patina and are in very good condition (with signs of use).

This unique piece has a wooden base.

François Moreau (or) Hippolyte was the second son of sculptor Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau and trained in his father's workshop.

From 1863 to 1914, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français where he presented decorative subjects most often inspired by the eighteenth century. He won a medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1878 and another at the Universal Exhibition of 1900.
He mainly produces medium-sized works and decorative or everyday objects: vases, statuettes, letter ops, bronze, spelter or pewter pockets.
He is the author of the statue of Alexis Claude Clairaut (1880) on one of the facades of the Hôtel de Ville in Paris, rue de Lobau.

Most of his works are kept at the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon.
