"Gold And Silver Brocaded Silk Fichu Shawl - Benares Varanasi India 19th Century"
Second half of the 19th century India Precious Square shawl made of Indian pink silk embroidered with gold and silver blades, produced in northern India in the 19th century, including in Benares (Varanasi) in Uttar Pradesh. Central field filled with a geometric lattice and framed by a row of chevrons. Silk fringed edges on the four sides. At each corner, in a spandrel, four large stylized cashmere palms or boteh. The suppleness and heaviness of this fabric is particularly remarkable. A few very rare small dark halos on the shawl (very difficult to perceive), otherwise no holes.
